- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Next conventions I made it a point to not only have ONE paint colour so that fans had the choice of weathering and pushing their painting to another level like this.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Not to mention that his house design kicks butt 🙂 I just love how everyone took my floor dimensions rule then each added their own spin on the height and shape of their buildings. Some like this really exceeded my expectations.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Here is Kim Hannebohn. She and her husband Dave were real troopers. Helping out to finish plastering buildings that others left behind. Many visitors did not have 3 day passes.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > On saturday morning we ran out of plaster bandages and had to switch to a "papier mache" technique. We cut strips of newspaper and dipped them into a plaster mixture. the reason for doing this is that the Plaster of Paris does not stick to foamcore. It slides right off. We need to apply a surface that will attach to the plaster.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Here I am in the centre showing how you can use a pain brush - LOL - paintbrush (don't mind me, I made a typo and thought it was too funny to remove) to give texture to the plaster of paris. this gives an excellent result as seen in the movies. or on your living room walls 🙂
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Applying the masters techniques to good use 😛
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Time for a 1 minute water break. One thing never changed in 2 decades, you have so much to do and the day passes so fast, you don't ever have time to eat or drink LOL
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Nearing the end of the day and look at that crowd. At this point I no longer had Fridays worries that this experiment was going to be a huge failure.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > People still coming to make buildings at the foamcore station.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Even though most were remaining scraps, it didn't stop for fans arriving a little later to not be able to have fun too.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Look at all these buildings being plastered. I think we need extra tables 🙂 The patch of dark hair on the left belongs to Joe Amaro - my friend who brought his Jedi Council for display. Did I tell you how cool it was to have girls come and take part in the workshop. She was making a building as a present for her fiancee. How cool is that? We should all be so lucky 😛
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Having no more plaster, fans were shown how to cover their buildings with Papier Mache so that it would be paintable and still blend in with the plaster houses.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Having the opportunity to meet fellow Star Wars fans who were fans of my website was a pure thrill. My friend Lucie thought it was funny that I was a semi Celebrity at the convention - at home - not so much HAHAHAHA
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > It really was great to see how people got into making their Buildings. Did they notice they were getting wet and all gooped up? yeah, but that was part of the fun 😀
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Diluting the paint with water allowed me to save some money but also gave the houses that Tatooine movie look.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Am I still blabbing away in the back there ?
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Since plaster was limited when starting this and the Docking bay 94 so huge, it was decided to leave the little amount of plaster for the fans and just use Papier Mache to cover this beast. Not as cool as having the plaster texture I know but once painted, would look cool.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > It's hard to do apply newspaper strips when there are so many interesting articles - heh heh. Lucky for the guys, it was a french newspaper from Montreal no one could read ;P
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > See papier mache still makes you smile 🙂 Doing group builds also has the perk of meeting and making new friends.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Putting one last coat of plaster on the docking bay. I couldn't have pictures online without at least one with Lucie 🙂 At least if I wanted to stay alive - LOL. She was such a great help. I don't know what i would have done if she had not offered to come to Indianapolis with me. Thanks Lucie 🙂
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Painting the docking bay. Now doesn't this look awesome? Having the paint splotched on is the key to making it look old, weathered and a Mos Eisley Space port 🙂 It's looking really cool. I wish I could have kept it myself ;P
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Checking the houses to see if dry enough for painting.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > An Alien head being painted. Almost looks like a lost relative of Star Trek's Worf don't you think ? 🙂
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Coming along great. Can you see the weathering effect on the domes and front wall?
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > We ran out of paint containers early on. They were 'borrowed" to become Mos Eisley domes on top of buildings :p We used anything we could get our furry paws on. Like coke bottles! Look how cool the watered down paint looks on this building? It's only one colour but looks like many were applied. Great effect.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > See what you can do in 1 afternoon ? I like the double height design.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > More houses waiting to be painted.
- CONSTRUCTION DAY TWO - MAY 04 > Look at this little tower construction. How cool is that ?
