- SET UP - MAY 23 001 > After approval of my final shot from Transformers and saying goodbye to my ILM colleagues, John and I arrived in Los Angeles after a 7 hour drive. Now it's time to unload the rental van into the convention centre. You can see some of the Lucasfilm donated toys that will be randomly handed out to the fans building at our booth.
- SET UP - MAY 23 002 > So much stuff was purchased over the months in San Francisco leading up to the show that needed to be brought with us for the fans to build with. It took what seemed forever to pack it all up just before midnight - 4 hours past the original time we wanted to leave.
- SET UP - MAY 23 003 > Here you can see some of the Ewok prototypes that I had made during the weekend breaks from the long hours at ILM. What was cool is that for the first time, I was physically in the same building as Mary and Steve, so I was able to show them progress for feedback during lunchbreaks vs emails and photos of the past 2 conventions.
- SET UP - MAY 23 004 > Can you spot some of the tree bark prototypes ?
- SET UP - MAY 23 005 > When we arrived, the first thing they told us was that because of union rules, we were NOT allowed to carry anything into the hall ourselves. We had to load all our stuff on pallets then find a driver that was available to pick them up and transport to our booth.
- SET UP - MAY 23 006 > Some of the Micro Bark John discovered at a San Francisco flower shop. We nearly emptied the entire store that day LOL.
- SET UP - MAY 23 007 > I am shocked this prototype made it in one piece. If you are wondering what it is, I designed and built ONE section of the AT-AT / Shuttle landing platform. This will be a huge help for Scott and Duke to cut and build the missing pieces to create the full movie accurate version.
- SET UP - MAY 23 008 > It's only like 9:45 and I am already pooped LOL. Unloading all those heavy bags and boxes is not what Frank likes to do 🙂
- SET UP - MAY 23 009 > Since we have to find our own pallets, they are hard to find and trying to figure out how to maximize the stacking of our items without damages or tipping over proved more challenging than predicted.
- SET UP - MAY 23 010 > Union guy just arrive to carry in the first pallet of cardboard boxes.
- SET UP - MAY 23 011 > But before he can do that for us, we are told we have to wrap the entire contents in saran wrap to make sure nothing falls out during transport.
- SET UP - MAY 23 012 > Spin and Spin and Spin...
- SET UP - MAY 23 013 > This back aching part they don't help you out - Start at the bottom and start spinning around.
- SET UP - MAY 23 014 > This is taking forever, you need to overlap a lot of layers in order to make it thick enough to withstand the weight of the stacked boxes that could tear it.
- SET UP - MAY 23 015 > Almost done. And this is just the FIRST :O ughhhh.
- SET UP - MAY 23 016 > After watching us sweat in the California heat, our driver approves our wrapping skills and starts moving his forklift into place.
- SET UP - MAY 23 017 > Time to stack Pallet #2. Toy donations and Aquarium plants among other materials brought with us from San Francisco.
- SET UP - MAY 23 018 > John using his guns to speed wrap the saran around this stack. A little more complex as the boxes are more hollow and wobbly.
- SET UP - MAY 23 019 > John was a real hero this morning finding us 2 more pallets.
- SET UP - MAY 23 020 > Trying to stack as many items as we can so that we can park the van and move inside to start the actual set up.
