Here we go again, the nightmare of high school math comes back to haunt me yet again LOL. Making a floor plan is ESSENTIAL on how the build will take shape, but most important, how MANY creations will we need the fans to build to create the final MEGA DIORAMA. The very FIRST thing that I must do when we decide to organize a Diorama Builders Workshop at Star Wars Celebration is HOW will we play in the floor space that Lucasfilm gives us at the show. After the crew and I vote on what planet – or film scene we want to create – The zone is divided into BUILDING and DISPLAY. This year was fun because we gave the fans a choice of INSIDE or OUTSIDE…
.
.
- This is where we were located in the convention hall this year
- Our booth was divided into three zones. Hoth INSIDE, Hoth OUTSIDE and BUILDERS area.
- WORK AREA: How many tables, chairs, building zones, how many builds for a section ? ARGHHHHH Did I tell you I HATE MATH !!! 🙂
- INSIDE HOTH: figuring out how connect all the builds and stack up a bunch of hallways BEHIND the main Echo Base Docking Bay. This will allow more fans to build and maximize table space.
- All the hallways will be lined up together against that on the left and be followed by the arches that the X-Wings and Snow Speeders are parked under. A BMF falcon is planned to be the centerpiece of the docking bay.
- Here is a close up view where you can see the RED open roof "L" Style hallways. The first 12 in the front row will be facing INTO the Docking Bay. The rear row will face OUT and become the background hallways of the "U" Style hallways that will face on the EAST side and give an extra photo op angle for the fans.
- OUTSIDE HOTH: Trenches, Turrets and Shield Generators, not to mention the Imperial AT-AT's and other ships coming to attack the rebel base.
- The idea I came up with was that we could make the trnch sections with little edges so that we could seperate 2 tables apart, and have the trenches fall down between them and have the "lips" sitting on each tables edges giving the illusion that the are sunk into the ground. And most important, NOT Sawing holes into the convention center tables 🙂
- In the end, there will be 129 tables. A whopping 77 2 feet x 8 feet tables will creat the look we are going for. Obviously WAY BIGGER then what any of us can fit in our home displays, that is what makes building at Celebrations so AWESOME, but after the show, you can use all the materials and techniques in a smaller scale 🙂
