dwc news  conventions Celebration IV 15 YEAR ANNIVERSARY !

Hey everyone, can you believe a NEW Celebration is happening right now as you are reading this (under the NEW DIY Orama Builders name) and that today is ALSO 15 years !!! Yes !!! From the day I arrived in Los Angeles and started setting up the 3rd of my Star Wars Celebration Diorama Builders workshop booths.

15 years ago was, and remains, one of the MOST SPECIAL years of the Diorama Builders. Not only was it an amazing build – Endor – but also the year I was hired for the first time at my bucket list dream job at ILM – Industrial Light & Magic – compositing FX on the first Transformers film. What this meant was that after 2 conventions sending Lucas prototypes and approvals for the booth by emails I was now working in the SAME BUILDING as Mary AND as a bonus 🙂 Steve Sansweet from Rancho Obi-Wan (his office was right next to Mary) so I would just hop in an elevator and walk right up to their offices to show them the actual prototypes I was working on IN PERSON with LIVE feedback. That was really so cool and sadly the one and ONLY time this opportunity happened which makes this experience for me even more special.

Again a HUGE THANK YOU Mary Franklin who was at Lucasfilm at the time. She has always been my BIGGEST SUPPORTER through these 2 decades 🙂 It is weird not producing this year but I have 2 decades of amazing memories that I will cherish close to my heart forever.

If you were there with us in 2007 this week should bring you a lot of memories, if you never saw what we did – Some may not even have been born yet ;P – YES I am THAT OLD LOL – Then this should be fun for you to see what we all created. The fans had so much fun and the end result was BEYOND what I had envisioned. Stay tuned I may have a few Tutorial surprises for you during the summer 🙂 … Frank.
