Practice day is over, we tweaked a couple of things to make the experience run even smoother, it is DAY 2 of the Diorama Builders Workshop and we are ready. What a crowd and look at ALL that was built by the fans !!! AMAZING !!! The only SCARE is that SO MANY people showed up we ran out of styrofoam sheets and had to run to home Depot and get another 200 sheets to last the rest of the show.
.
If you attended and took photos, please email them to me DIORAMAWORKSHOP.COM@GMAIL.COM so I can add them to this gallery.
.
- Look who decided to drop in for a SURPRISE VISIT 🙂 The MAKER himself.
- I got a call the night before saying we can't tell you the reason, but make sure you are at your booth at 7 am before the ublic arrives.
- Well it didn't take long for chaos to ensue when someone let it slip that George was in the building and he had to be escorted away 🙁
- Came in this morning and found this, A fan made a sign for our entrance 🙂
- Close up View, Day 2 of the convention - 10 am - WELCOME to the DIORAMA WORKSHOP 🙂
- I was able to grab a few fan builds from yesterday and place them at the workshop entrance to visually show actual examples of your building options.
- An example of how you can insert simple doors into your hallway to bring it up a level.
- I have also added my laptop this morning looping my Quicktime Instruction videos, the lines for waiting were longer than in past years, and this allowed fans to learn about techniques and pass the time.
- First thing people saw when arriving today was all of the Hasbro AT-AT's on display... The Rebels better build their base quickly if they want to survive this assault 😛
- A closer side view of the NEW BMF AT-AT's. If you haven't picked one up yet for your collection, this is one COOL Star Wars Vehicle.
- With the Falcon placed in the center of the table, Fans can get an idea of what we are aiming for. Once we have the hundreds of aditional fans builds tomorrow, this will look just like the film set.
- Simon hard at work at the tedious part of preparing Hoth for you guys - Cutting hundreds and hundreds of pieces of Styrofoam.
- Close up of the PILES and PILES of Styrofoam pre-cut for Hoth assembly. This should be enough for just THIS morning 🙂
- Getting busy, Kids and their parents starting to add some textures with the Wood Burning pens while in the back, other fans start adding blue paint for texture details.
- As you can see, even us GROWN UP KIDS enjoy making Dioramas at the show 🙂
- Let's improvise and make some mountains stacking scraps of styrofoam.
- Kids of all ages are just fascinated at how heat can turn flat surfaces into texture.
- Just look at how cool this looks, I just love my wood burning pen.
- One of the easy builds at the show were the Turrets. Simple assembly using plastic cups and lids and straws.
- Look at how great these turned out and in less than 2 hours to build.
- Some more towers drying alongside some U Style Hallways.
- Back to making some cave hallways.
- Did you know styrofoam could be so much fun ? 🙂
- One of the early caves created by a fan here at Celebration V.
- Stacking some pieces to carve into a mountain corner detail.
- Some mountains and caves being carved out of styrofoam with the Hot Wire tools. This is a LOT of FUN to do!!! Day 2 people also started to wear masks for the fumes.
- Duke doing his C-3P0 impression - HAHAHAHA
- Just love that parents and kids come together to participate in the workshop.
- With ipads and games, parents thank me for introducing them to an activity to bond and share together.
- Teaching the FUN of Hot Glue Guns 🙂
- Chris showing me what he created in his morning break. Pretty cool.
- Wood burning pens work on Styrofoam as well 🙂
- Is this a clone trooper on Hoth ? 🙂 Alert Alert 🙂
- This girl and her twin were at the workshop all week, just look at how much fun she is having !
- Jamie and I trying to figure out what is the best way to align the floor base styrofoam pieces together.
- Debating if we should cut these ends in half as well like we did the rear corners.
- Holding the final Flower Pot Arch, I think we will need an extra table to put under here.
- I figured out that for the corners, it would work better using HALF of the Flower Pot arches. Here you can see how fascinated that little kid is in watching me put a mark with a toothpick. Imagine when he sees the final diorama !
- Scott trying to break our concentration... jamie is attaching the corner west arches to the floor base with toothpicks as I hold it from tipping over.
- The good thing about Styrofoam is that it's super easy to use Toothpicks to attach pieces together. No need for a hammer, just poke and push 🙂
- John puts some toothpicks in the back to attach the two sections together.
- The crowd is really starting to pick up, curious as to what everyone is doing inside the Diorama booth as well as their creations.
- Looking good, a couple of dozen U-Style hallways waiting to be placed in the Echo Base diorama.
- Look at this fancy rock formation. It's so cool what you can do with a Hot Wire and Wood Burning Pen.
- A whole bunch of Shield Generators should keep those AT-AT's at bay.
- Very COOL TaunTaun pen created in just one afternoon. Simple yet a perfect display for your pet 🙂
- Another corner cave. the kids really had a blast with these.
- Jamie starts taking all the caves and pile them up together for a pyramid style display in the corner of the outer diorama section.
- Great corner view Jamie placed of all of the Wampa caves created today by the fans. Simply AMAZING !!!
- Close up view of a Wampa cave using what I believe is a VINTAGE Wampa !! Awesome Fan Donation that will go home with the builder of this diorama section.
- I feel sad for this Wampa 🙁 LOL
- Awesome wall textures in this fan's cave. Some bones lying around which means a Wampa must be close by...
- I smell something, do you smell something ? like Jedi dinner ? 🙂
- Luke frozen upside down in the cave, I'm surprised only one fan thought of doing this. FANTASTIC !!
- Don't you LOVE the FANS CREATIVITY !!! They are the BEST. The staff and I do not tell them to build this, they invent it themselves and we discover these GEMS of imagination as we place them for the next day photo ops. Now let's play some WII 🙂
- Duke PULL MY FINGER - LOL. I seriously do not remember what we were discussing here - the downside of updating 5 years after the cnovention 🙁 Bows head in shame...
- Everyone all ages come to participate. That's is what is so much fun.
- Putting some final touches at the painting tables.
- on day 2 people started wearing masks to avoid the styrofoam fumes. Make sure to build outside if you can at home.
- Don't forget to put your name under your build ! you all get to bring it home Sunday as your workshop souvenir.
- Holy crap ! we are gonna run out of Styrofoam !!! I think we better go buy more or there is NO Workshop tomorrow !!!
- Danielle bringing some of the fan made Caves to the drying area. I think we are running out of space. A truly SWEET dilema 🙂
- Check out this hallway. Total Imperial destruction !
- Day 2 draws to a close, some of the crew take a little break before clean up and set up keeps us busy till at least 10 pm.
- My god look at ALL that was BUILT TODAY !!! This just blows my mind. I just LOVE doing these workshops at Celebration. Hard work in the planning stages, but pays off when you see the creativity.
- This is HUGE !!! No wonder we ran out of styrofoam, surpassed ALL our attendance predictions.
- Simon taking a small break and admiring all the fans hard work today. I don't know if you can tell from this angle, but Simon has a HUGE smile on his face 🙂
- If you have to make this all alone it would take 2 months, but when you have hundreds of helpers 🙂
- Look at how cool this is, someone made 2 trenches that connect as if there was an explosion. Smart thinking these Star Wars fans !!!
- After a day's work, one of the Bases War Rooms is almost completed. Look at all those cool consoles ready for action.
- A fan made this creature or is it a droid ? Creativity Rules at Diorama Builders for sure 🙂
- John grabbing one of the DOZENS of U style Hallways created today by the fans at the workshop. Look at all that awesomeness !!! 🙂 What I love even more - is that I didn't have to amke all those by myself LOL.
- Placing some of the last U Style Hallways as some fan tries to take a photo. I think he wisjhes he had a ladder.
- In front of ALL U Hallways is the 3 Arch Wall.
- It goes right in front of the U Hallways and the X-Wing Flower Pot V Arches.
- I sure am strating to think I am a BOSSY person, seeing how I am ALWAYS pointing orders to the crew 😛
- Let's grab 2 more U Shape Hallways, it takes 3 to place behind the 3 Arch wall.
- U Hallway number 2 goes in the center.
- The last U Hallway goes in window number 3.
- Scott holding the 3 Archway Hallway as I am pushing and attaching the two 3 archway walls together. Now we will be able to continue placing U Style Hallways behind it.
- Are you sure we are in a straight line ?
- Time to place some U Style Hallways behind the 3 Archway Walls. You can follow the Yellow arrow and see Chris building the HUGE Front MAIN HANGAR GATES.
- Look at the SIZE of this main Doorway. CHRIS is gonna hit a home run with this build.
- Jamie and I discussing something, I think I need another coffee 🙂
- Because the tables were not all at the same height, we discovered that if we LIFTED the rear U style hallway and place it slightly OVER the L style hallway, you would not see the connection gap when taking photos from the front view.
- A quick view behind the scenes, all these awesome fan created hallways are placed behind the 3 arch walls. Don't look as glamorous here as they do from the other side.
- A great view showing the gap between the arch tunnels and the main Flower Pot arches to the right. It's what adds the perfect depth and movie accuracy when looking in. Obviously we don't have this space at home 🙁
- A view from behind the Flower Pot X-Wing Arches. Not as sexy from back here eh ?
- Placed the little metal walkways leading up to the BMF Falcon. Looking sweet even if all the figures arent placed yet 😛
- Looking from the north west corner of our booth all the way down to the AT-AT outdoor section of the diorama - that's a whopping 60 foot distance !!!
- Time to start digging through all the Fan Figure Fund donations. Look at all these cool toys. Did I tell you how GENEROUS Star Wars Fans are ?
- Pushing the end floor panels together to minimize the gaps between the Styrofoam pieces. You can start to see how cool the perspective is from this photo op angle, looking all the way down the Flower Pot arches, 3 Arch wall, U style Hallways and L style Hallways at the very end. For my fellow Canadians... Look up - WAY UP ... you may get the joke if you are old enough 🙂 I thought of this right away when I saw how my arm came into frame of this photo 😛
- Quick view looking from where the GIANT FRONT GATES will be placed tomorrow once Chris finishes building them. Right Chris ??? 🙂
- Simon? or is it Jamies hands placing some cables under the snow speeders to make them look like they are fueling up to the consoles.
- Who's that giant looking in 🙂 If you go too low with the camera, that's what you see. I am actually doing last minute checks aligning the rear tunnels.
- John following my directions from the other side of the Echo Base hangar.
- Some last minute tweeking, adjusting the size of the floor base.
- Rebel pilots ready for battle. This figure actually looks SO MUCH like our friend Scott.
- He's on our staff so, if you come to a Celebration, go up to him and say... HEY I SAW YOU ON HOTH 🙂
- Looking in towards the North Wall, all the walls pretty much done, now we need to add some filler figures tomorrow.
- A view looking in from the main gate. BMF Falson still looking a WEE small in such a HUGE diorama ;p
- Closer view of Princess Leia briefing her Rebels - preparing for the Imperial attack.
- Jamie placed this figure UNDER the Snowspeeder - adding a touch of realism and life to a toy. Little touches like this give our final dioramas movie likeness and smiles on the fans faces when they discover them.
- Doing some quick improv for the floor runway lights. Cutting 1 styrofoam pieces instead of 5 foamcore pieces.
- Our quick Friday staging. All walls in place, we just need to add the rest of the donated figures tomorrow.
- Hi Five !!! I LOVE Macro Photography of figures and how plastic comes to life when placed in a diorama environment.
- Uh oh !!! Boba Fett !!! This rebel is NO MATCH for thsi Bounty Hunter !!!
- HAHAHA Easter Egg, peeking pilot from a archway upside down LOL. My Crew is the best 🙂
- Duke and Scott ... Frank how tall do you want the hallways stacked ?
- Pointing AGAIN, 🙂 This high looks good to me.
- Frank are you pointing again ? LOL
- Here I am showing Scott how and where to place all the stacked extra hallways that will go behind the Main Rebel Hangar.
- Scott grabbing a few scrap pieces of styrofoam to raise up some of the rear hallways behind the Main Hangar.
- so many builds created, it is AWESOME.
- There were so many Hallways made today, we had to figure out where to place them. We thought why not stack them behind the Main Hangar. This way when people go around taking photos, they discover a pleasant surprise.
- Let's place a few extra caves in there as well.
- John grabbing a few U Style hallways
- and switches them around to make a more level floor.
- Looking down again towards the AT-AT's, you can see the caves to the right rear, and closer to us, the L and U style hallways of course and the X-Wings parked under the Flower Pot arches to the right.
- What was I trying to do here ? FORCE PUSH the Hallways into place ? 🙂
- Simon helping me move some extra tables in the front of the main Rebel Hangar.
- I look so tired LOL and OhOh, Simon looks irritated at me. 😛
- Ok, what did I say now ? Look at Fred covering his face as Simon and Duke just stare at me all hypnotized like 🙂
- Jamie, Fred and Simon discussing how to set up Trenches first thing tomorrow morning.
- Simon sets up a quick test example and it's gonna work. We can go eat now 🙂
- Hundreds of LOOSE Hoth Troopers were sent to us direclty from Hasbro's manufacturing plant. You should have seen our faces when we opened the box. Huge box FULL of Figures + Open box + 30 to 40 year old adults = Feel like you are 13 🙂
- Time to leave, quick view of the LONG row of Turrets and Shield Generators. Wait till you see how these fit into the AT-AT table display.
- Just look at how many Turrets and Shield Generators created today. After spending the night on the drying table, they will be ready for placement tomorrow.
- tomorrow, the fans will make 3x more !
- How AWESOME did this turn out !!! and it's only DAY 2 !!! wait till all the donated figures are in their final display.
- From the corner of the Echo Base you can see all the way back, the outside AT-AT battle heading our way 🙂
- Jamie showing us how we ALL feel at the end of a 16 hour day 🙂
- OK Everyone, it's 11 pm time to go to dinner !!!
- Food !!! that wakes us up pretty quickly LOL
- More convention awesomeness !!! John and Duke , quick Dejerek game as we leave the booth and head to the hotel.
